True North ~ December ~ 2011 Dear Friends, Welcome and thank you for taking time to visit our site and our newsletter. This is our best forum to communicate with you at your convenience, short of having you in our back yard (and we'd love to help you get back, if we can). So, grab a beverage, sit for a couple and have a read. We have no idea where 2011 went. It's on its way out here shortly. For the Mosbeck Family, 2011 arrived in full celebration, our nephew Eric, married 12/31/10. A beautiful wedding, the ceremony was on our lodge deck, subzero temps ~ the reception in town and the New Year rang in, loud and clear. Fun experience! Dallas made a funny joke as he was getting dressed for Eric's wedding, "Hey Mom, I am gonna find me a wife tonight!". Our response was "ya, ya, Dall, just get ready." Well....he did! The thought still makes us smile...and we will spill more on the kids further on. True North is always thankful to each and every one of you who visit us. Whether it is an annual visit or an occassional visit, every visit is equally meaningful and valuable to us. Your visits are crucial to our survival and allow us to maintain our livelyhood. Economics have made a dramatic change for most families and the tourist industry certainly understands the impact of the changes. Thank you for saving to visit, thank you for making True North a priority in your life. With ice out, came the hustle and bustle of opening and readying ourselves for a season that we were unsure, what was to be. Reservation were down, particularly on the fly-in side of the business. As with most things in life, it was unnecessary worry. It all worked out, just as it was suppose to. We ended up having a good season. We had all types of vacationers visit, the typical fishing trip (and there is nothing typical about you people - you are all unique), the beach goers and swimmers, the flat out vacationers (rest, relax, revive and rest again) and we had construction workers too - two months worth! Combined, it was a successful mix. Thank you! Fishing. Reports were good, across the board, from the fly-in outposts, the fly-in day fishing trips, to the local fishing on Clearwater and the connected lakes. Good fishing! Big Muskies were caught & released, Tony Stewart started things off with a beauty of a fish off the boat dock; Cathy caught the biggest fish of her life, a 44"+ and the lodge was still visable from the boat - you don't have to go far to fish; Brad Jones finished the season with a 51". HUGE FISH! Bass fishing numbers were good, Northerns were sought and caught (the Swartout Family treated us to a new fish dish, Chicken Fried Northern, it was so good, thank you guys!) and Walleyes were abundant in a variety of sizes. This is where the real story is, the recovery of a criticial fishery. Some slight changes to regulations in the early 90's, along with awareness and education of catch & release practices and a united goal to attain a sustainable resource, and we better add a great deal of patience to that formula, Clearwater has arrived again to a World-Class fishery. NO KIDDING! A regular occurance of walleyes in all class sizes from the wee little guys to the lunkers are being located. We have found more people are returning fish to the lake. On occassion, keeping some to eat, the emphasis is on catching, NOT KEEPING. With the philosophy and passion of catch & release practices by the majority of users, being exercised, that has allowed those users to take pride in a sustainable fishery. As we all know, things of value must be protected, we must ensure it will sustain itself for future generation of visitors, to experiene this fishery, this keen little pristine place in the world. From a business perspective, we have great fishing experiences to offer to you, your children, your grandchildren and so on.....we have great fishing! Thank you to the Green, Mead, Chase family's for the rockin' good fish fry we had this past July! You all take the cake. More importantly, you are incredibly talented!!!! Family scoop. We already touched on Dallas - that's a good starting point. Dallas has moved back to NW Ontario. He did in fact, begin dating his future wife Jan. 1/11. He proposed July 6/11. Kari Helseth said YES! They were married Aug. 11/11 in a private, quaint, beautiful ceremony for 12, which included the Minister. It was a perfect wedding! Kari is from Nestor Falls, ON, she too is a "tourist camp" born and raised kid. Dallas & Kari were not strangers, they have known each other for 20 years and Dallas has worked for Kari on occassion, guiding. Kari manages her parents business, Tinker's, with the help of her sister and brother-in-law. Dallas has found his role, in Nestor Falls, with Kari. Kari is a welcome addition to our family and we love her to pieces! Dallas & Kari plan on renewing their vows 8/11/12 and celebrate with their family and friends. Nicely done kids! Cody lives in St. Louis Park, MN. He has a career with Waypoint Insurance Advisors. Cody is learning the business and finds it interesting, stimulating and promising. Cody has continued to stay active with his hockey, playing on multiple Sr. teams and he has even taken on a job Coaching a Bantam team. But the Biggest accomplishment came when Miss Robyn Henderson said YES! Cody proposed to Robyn Aug. 8/11. It was a beautiful proposal that included family and friends along with a airplane pulling a proposal banner! It was a very memorable engagement!! Cody met Robyn while attending Gustavus Adolphus College, they both graduated 2010. Robyn is currently teaching Kindergarten at a charter school in St. Paul. Cody and Robyn will marry Aug. 17/12 in the Minneapolis area. We are looking forward to the festivities and welcoming Robyn to our family, she indeed is, a keeper!!! Bravo Cody & Robyn! Nicki is NOT engaged or getting married next Aug. Thank God! She is in her sophmore year at St. Catherine University (a.k.a. St. Kates) in St. Paul, MN. Nicki is playing hockey for the St. Kate Wildcats, she plays forward and centers her line. Until last season, she was a defenceman, it's a new learning curve for her and she seems to be adjusting nicely. Nicki's interst of study lies in the field of Sign Language Interpreter. It's a rewarding and interesting field. Nicki spent the greatest part of her 2011 summer working youth hockey camps. We have no idea what is in store for her this coming summer, but we do know, she will bring a smile with her, wherever she goes. We are very, very proud of her, Dallas and Cody. Chuck and Cathy have managed to keep busy again this year. Chuck's regular duties here at camp fufill most of his time in the summer. He managed to get away with his father, Jay, Scott, Eric, Cameron and another friend to make the Artic Circle trip again. The past few years, come mid September Chuck has headed to Kasabonkia to do some charter work. This year, Dallas accompanied Chuck ~ it was a huge asset to have Dallas along, physically as well as mentally. The downside of Dallas, he has a huge heart and he rescued two dogs and brought them home. Dallas and Kari have one of those dogs, can you guess who has the other? Yep...we do. Grumpy is his name. Once hockey season begins, we try to catch as many of Nicki's games as possible. We know, there are not many years remaining to watch our kids play. We take in the odd basketball game, always a St. Mary's game and we have been fortunate to make the WCC the past few years. Long and short....it takes care of a year, fairly quickly, more of a snap like experience. Throw in a few ice fishing expeditions and some trap line excursions, it's a full year. Chuck has been experiencing some unusual joint and muscle issues, most of you who were here this summer noticed. We think he's on the road to recovery. We thank you for your kind words, concerns and well wishes. Jay and his little family are doing very well! Janene (Jay's wife) has her hands full. Cameron is 8, Teagan is 6 and the four of them have a very active and busy life. They steal every opportunity available to spend time at their cottage on Clearwater. Jay continues to extend his help to us, when he has time, and we are so thankful for his help! Parents. Chuck's parents have set the pattern for the passion of Clearwater. They continue to spend more time at Clearwater than they do at their Emo home. They love it! They are doing well. We are fortunate to have them near, we are able to see them on a regular basis and visit with them. We accompanied them to Iowa to visit Gene and Fern Struchen. It was a great trip and a treat to touch base with the Struchen family again. Cathy's Mom, Boo/Barbara visited for 4 weeks this past summer. It is always a pleasure to have Mom here. She loves to swim, hence the enjoyment Cathy gets from the water, and she loves being at the lake. The time together flys much to quickly. Cathy's Dad, Tom and his wife, Silvia were able to spend the entire summer at their cottage this year. It was wonderful to have them around for the season. We'll hope for a repeat on that! Randy (cathy's brother) and Darlene, continue to live in Moraga, CA., with their two boys, Chase 8 and Cade 8 (not twins). The two boys are incredibly busy in all activities and school.Randy remains the bench boss for the St. Mary's Gaels Mens basketball team(watch for them again this season). We do not get many opportunities to see the RB Family, we miss them! True North notes: *We no longer will be issuing fishing licenses, nor will we have licenses available at camp. We have added a button to our webpage, opening page, to purchase your fishing license. Click the button and you will go directly to the site to purchase. It's easy to do. If you have questions, please let us know. *We are upgrading our boats & motors at main camp. G3's w/ F50hp Yamaha's. * We have a FaceBook Page. Feel free to visit, upload pictures or comments. We (Chuck & Cathy) are still in the infancy stages of learning. (continue below pic) |
