Chuck was born and raised in Emo, Ontario. To say he is a “ local” fits. His family's longevity in this area, dates back to 1897, and both sides of his family have remained in the area to date. This is HOME!
The family (Tompkins /Mosbeck) has had a cabin on Clearwater (Burditt) dating back to the 30’s. Chuck’s grandfather and father opened the door for exposure to bush plane flying, as they were both pilots. Chuck attained his private pilots licence before he graduated from high school (76) and his commercial pilots licence in 1980.
Combining his love for the area and the love for flying, a charter air service and additional aircraft were next on the list. A few location moves over the course of time (all moves taking place in the same south bay on Clearwater lake), today you’ll find Chuck, living at Clearwater lake. Flying his choice of aircraft, a DCH – 2 MIII (Turbo Beaver –added to the fleet in ’98).
Chuck is the owner, manager and Chief Pilot for Ross Air (charter air service). Ross Air’s main base location is shared with True North Outposts & Cabins.
Cathy Mosbeck
Cathy is an import, of “Hoosier” origination. At the age of 2 Cathy’s parents moved to Arizona. In 1972 the Bennett family went on a fishing vacation to Trail’s End Lodge. In 1973 The Bennett’s owned and operated Trails’ End Lodge (Clearwater Lake) from ’73 through ’77.
Chucks parents purchased Ross’s Camp in ’76. In ’77 Cathy made the move from Bennett to Mosbeck and from Trail’s End to Ross’s Camp. Cathy and Chuck were at Ross’s Camp until 1986 – at which time, the camp sold. From ’86 –’99 together they operated Ross Air (Established in ’81) on Clearwater (and still do to date) providing charter service to other camps in the area, sight seeing and day fishing experiences.
Slowly they attained fly-in outposts cabins that met the strict criteria Chuck was looking for, In 1991 Musk, 1994 Snelgrove, Una and Cook, lastly 1999 Berry Lakes. 1999 also brought the purchase, formerly known as White Bear Lodge, a quick name change to True North Outposts &. Cabins (the outposts were already established under this name) and they were off and running, once again operating a main camp resort.
The main camp purchase in ’99 was a good addition – it complemented and extended the range of services offered – and provided a year round home location, on lovely Clearwater Lake.
The children, Dallas , Cody and Nicki have been raised in the resort atmosphere. They all have been instrumental with the business, and to this day, really don’t know a stranger. Fishing, hunting, water sports and summer camp activities have always been their lifestyle. Currently all three are in school pursuing their dreams.
Our Family
The Mosbeck family continues to lay down roots in this area. True North is owned and operated by The Mosbeck family – they can be easily found at camp, eagerly looking forward to your next visit. The Mosbecks welcome you to come and share in a little piece of their paradise.
